For Dad

It's right between Father's Day and my father's birthday, later this week. And since I have a bit of time, I thought it would be appropriate to finally update my blog by making my last two posts a matched pair.

Dad has always been my rock, the steady one who keeps us all together and "chill," as my sister puts it. He's laid-back but not passionless, calm yet not placid - and he's got his father's sense of humor - which means an endless supply of corny, adorable jokes.

Over the past year, Dad's been helping me immensely. It's not an easy time to be in your twenties, as all the newspapers continually report. As yet, I've had no success in finding a library job, and while I enjoy where I am now, I still seek challenges and greater diversity in my daily tasks.

Also, I still want to be a writer. Something you've dreamed of doing your whole life doesn't just go away because the economy is nosediving.

I'm at a crossroads, the same one I've been at for quite a while now. While the signs may be getting familiar, I still don't know which road to take. But I know, as long as my family is there, giving me advice, love, and support, I'll eventually find the right path.

So thanks, Dad, for being you, and for always being there - for me, Mom, my siblings, and all the other people whose lives you brighten every day.
